Irish Organisations Spending €42 million Tracking Home Movers
Dublin, May - Leading Irish companies and Government agencies are spending in excess of €42 million a year tracking home movers, according to research from NewAddress.ie.
The research found that 11% of adults move home every year generating in excess of 5 million change-of-address transactions.
Derek Quinn, chief executive of NewAddress.ie, said the costs are prohibitive. "For most organisations, the cost of processing a customer change of address is in the region of €5. However, it can be much higher across some sectors, most notably banks, where the cost is €20," he explained.
NewAddress.ie is the Irish change-of-address service. It makes the house moving process more efficient and cost effective by enabling house movers to notify Ireland's leading companies of their change of address on-line and free of charge.
On average, the cost for a change of address request to be processed via the phone is €5 and by post it costs €20.
Organisations managing the highest number of change-of-address transactions include banks, mobile phone operators, loyalty card providers and Government bodies such as the Revenue Commissioners, utilities, Passport and Drivers Licence agencies.
Mr Quinn added: "Organisations have a real issue tracking people as they move house. There are hundreds of thousands of people move home every year in the Republic of Ireland and many of these disappear off the radar because they fail to inform credit card and loyalty card companies, banks and mobile phone operators."
According to Mr Quinn, this causes the disappearance of companies' customer services investment, additional costs associated with marketing to old addresses and a loss of control of relationships with customers at the critical time.
